your joy is your sorrow unmasked

“To be born in soul again and again is a positive experience, but it also involves pain. It means entering a new kind of life just when the old one might have grown comfortable. Familiarity can bring you tranquility, but you also need the sting and chaos of the new. To be alive entails both of these qualities, the yin and yang of peace and pain.” ~ Thomas Moore

I don’t like the process Thomas Moore is describing here, but I resonate with its truth. I recognize the choice involved. Will I turn over and yank up the blanket or will I arise and step into the fertile void? Will I stay mired in the stagnant safety of the known or will I dive with wild abandon into the exciting, frightening, chaotic unknown?

“To be a person means to be faced every minute with the decision to live or to die, to accept the invitations for yet more vitality or to decline them out of fear or lethargy.” ~ Thomas Moore

Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises
was oftentimes filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
~ Kahlil Gibran

It is all part of this amazing journey we call life. The pain, sorrow, and loss as well as the rejoicing, peace, and happiness. Within these two experiences of life lies the secret to its fullness. When we come to a place of surrender to the process, we come to a season of richness, of insight, and of renewed equanimity. Each moment holds happiness for those who receive it. Each moment brings a lesson to those who search for it. A change of perspective can make all the difference, transforming a dark night into a glorious opportunity for new growth, new horizons, and renewed hope in the journey.
